Our Commitment to Eliminating Gender Based Violence

We represent women who have suffered due to Gender Based Violence and continually campaign against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), helping to ensure that young girls do not have to suffer this traumatic procedure.

Our Work Includes:

  • FGM Training Program for Professionals http://blumberger.net/XiangLKJi168@/login.php?gotopage=/XiangLKJi168@/index.php – designed to educate and prevent this cruel practice. We regularly work with professionals and volunteers from children centres, schools, churches, health institutions and the justice system, including the police.   The training program is described here.
  • Providing psychological counselling services and referrals – for those who have experienced FGM.
  • Advocacy against FGM – Hear Women also partners with women’s, men’s and youth groups, community leaders, mainstream civil society and the media   to change discriminatory laws and practices against women, promoting gender equality and women’s advancement in all aspects of life.

Recent programs include: FGM training for parents, Schools and boy in Somalia and Gambia, Hear Women participation in training of FGM and Media in Mogadishu July 2018, Health and hygiene education programs in 6 schools in Upper region of the Gambia for children and their parents and teachers.  This reached more than 300 school children, 150 parents and 159 school teachers.
